Bunker Quantity Surveys

What is a bunker quantity survey?

A Bunker Quantity Survey is a specialized inspection carried out between a bunker barge and an vessel during fuel delivery. By carefully conducting measurements before and after bunkering, the delivered quantity can be accurately determined and potential disputes can be prevented. All our surveyors are in possession of calibrated sounding tapes and thermos-probes. We’ve also invested in UTI’s in case open soundings aren’t allowed. This enables us to perform measurements on board bunker barges and vessels at all times, whether through open or closed measurement methods.

In addition, our surveyor will assist the Chief Engineer with the preparation and correct completion of documentation. The crew will also be supported in taking proper representative samples, including photographic documentation of the sampling process to ensure the client is provided with evidence of a correct sampling procedure.

What is a de-bunker quantity survey?

A de-bunker survey is conducted after a vessel has received off-spec fuel that needs to be redelivered to the fuel supplier. Our surveyors will carry out manual soundings to provide accurate calculations and determine the final quantity that has been transferred. Our surveyors will monitor the de-bunkering process, including sampling, and will provide the Chief Engineer and the client with a detailed report as soon as possible after completion.
