On-Hire / Off-Hire Survey

An On-Hire or Off-Hire survey is a key inspection conducted prior to the commencement or upon completion of a charter period. The purpose of this survey is to determine the exact quantity of fuel on board the vessel at the time of delivery to the charterer or redelivery to the owner. All fuel tanks are physically measured, and sounding pipes and calibration tables are checked for any irregularities.

Once the quantities have been established, the surveyor calculates the consumption from berth to the actual time of delivery or redelivery. Following completion of the survey, a Certificate of Delivery or Certificate of Re-Delivery is issued together with a copy of the ROB report.
